End

This may not be my most impressive picture for this project, but it is an appropriate end.  This is the "Pine Cone Drop" New Year's celebration in Flagstaff.  They lower a metal pine cone from the Weatherford Hotel in downtown at midnight.  I would have taken this one second before the new year, but the pine cone was covering the clock by then.

Train

This is the Grand Canyon Railway, which takes tourists to the park every day.  I wasn't sure when the train would be coming through the woods here, so I set up an hour in advance.  It was cold, but I found a rock to sit on and read a book.  The train whistle was audible as it left the park, so I was all ready to take this by the time it passed me.

Garden

On Saturday I took a very cold hike to Indian Garden, halfway to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.  This was taken from one of the rest areas by the trail.

Icicle

This is the biggest icicle hanging off of my family's house.  Taking a picture of it seemed like it might be slightly unwise, I wasn't under it, but if it fell, my camera might get hurt.  That would be bad.

Support

You have to appreciate a little bit of decoration on rest areas on the interstate.  This particular on is in New Mexico, near the Arizona border on I-40.

Project

This microwave (or installing it, rather) became a project while visiting my grandparents in Los Alamos.  It was finished today with a lot of grunting, so I figured a picture of it would be appropriate.

Centerpiece

This is the centerpiece on the table for Christmas dinner.  Again, I didn't have my good camera with me, so I took this with my phone before we started eating.

Storm

Since the snow storm in Flagstaff after finals week I think I've been watching more and more snow storms follow me.  This one is in Los Alamos, New Mexico, where my family was for Christmas.

Rest

These are shade structures at a rest area East of Flagstaff, I took this because of the repetition, but it would have been more evident if I had used a lower angle.

Kindling

Did I mention that it's been REALLY cold in Northern Arizona lately?  It's been making me very appreciative of the fire.

Room

I took this late at night after realizing that I hadn't taken a picture all day.  That's my excuse here.  My desk is somewhat significant though, I do spend a lot of time there.

Wrapping

My family goes into production style gift wrapping around the holidays.  I'm not sure if that's normal or not, but I enjoy it for some odd reason.

Chimes

These are the wind chimes on the back porch of my house.  Not that you can tell from a picture, but being filled with ice changed their tone considerably.

Decoration

This picture probably would have been better using my big camera, but I liked looking at Christmas lights through the trees at night.  I probably looked like a major stalker taking this too, as it's a house down the street from my family, and I don't know who lives there.

Highway

I think this is one of my favorite pictures so far, if only my tire tracks weren't in the snow there.  Highway 180 from Flagstaff to Valle is always good for scenery, but the dusting of snow certainly enhanced it.

Blanket

A big snowstorm blew through Flagstaff at the end of finals week.  Driving around town on Saturday was nice enough; everything was covered in snow but the roads were empty.  I spent a few hours in a very quiet downtown, which was blanketed in about six inches of snow.

Ice

I really can't say what was supposed to be going on here, but it was the day after finals so I was probably a little delirious.

Theater

This is a bad picture taken with my phone, but this is how I wound down after finals: staying up until 3 am and then driving in a snowstorm!  This was about an hour before the midnight premiere of The Hobbit, which I went to the night after my last final.

Cling

This foliage (though I can't identify it, that's not something they teach in CIS classes) stayed on the fence around a new construction zone for several days.  I would have been happy to have less of a background, but the wide aperture blurs it enough.

Accounting

This is what happens when I study for accounting!  I ended up with an A on the exam though, to give away that I'm uploading these weeks after they were taken.  I think that jig's up for most of the people that would be looking at this though.

Ticket

Just for the sake of going to a midnight premiere, I think this is the first ticket I've ever bought in advance for a movie.

East

This is just above an east facing door in my residence hall and the shadow on the wall always looks interesting.  Given that, I'm really not sure why I didn't include more of it in this picture.

Waste

We never did manage to get this sink to stop dripping.

Silhouette

I've had other pictures of my roommate in this project, often late at night working in dim lighting, but people working on computers in the dark just looks like college to me.

Popcorn

While unburnt toast does set off the smoke alarm in my dorm room, stove top popcorn doesn't.  It's usually associated with a movie, I'm guessing this was either the Expendables 2, or another of my roommate's and my Walking Dead marathons.

Nicked

Blinds

I'm sure there's some kind of complicated mathematical equation to explain how the apparent size of these changes as they get farther away.

Clockwork

This is the inside of a clock I inherited from my grandparents.  It's the first mechanical clock I've ever spent very much time with, and the workings are interesting given enough time.

Driers

I only had to adjust the second door to get this pattern, the rest were already in place.
