Depot

Most of my pictures seem to be taken in the early evening now.  I may have left the exposure too high on this one as I wasn't able to get any detail out of the clouds but I am still happy with the composition.

Homebrew

I have been working on this camera harness for the last two nights.  I decided I wanted something that would hold the camera more tightly than the regular strap when I am hiking (to keep it from bouncing off my chest every step) and rather than pay the $30 for one of these elastic harnesses online I made this one myself.

Zoom

To the untrained eye, this picture is out of focus...  Actually, this picture is just out of focus.  I think a few of the branches toward the center are clear but I intentionally took this while zooming the camera in.  It reminds me of something from a movie, but I can't remember exactly what.

Quake

I like the way all of the quaking aspen in Flagstaff look in late spring.  Or is it early summer now?

May 27, 2012

Mistake

This is a good example of why it is a good idea to check the exposure BEFORE you decide you have a good picture.  I have several pictures of this trumpet with different kinds of framing, but they were all so underexposed that with practically all the brightening I could do, this is what I came out with.

May 26, 2012

Pawn

I like the narrow depth of field in this picture, it would have been nice to have the pawn be the only piece in focus rather than including the bishop and part of the knight, but I'm pleased with how this one turned out.

Gust

Grand Canyon's graduation ceremony was on Friday.  It was held on the rim of the canyon as usual, and, also according to tradition, it was extremely windy.  Not being among the people having to wear one this year, I was quite amused watching the hats and gowns flying all over the place.

May 24, 2012

Away

The depot area might be a good place for a lot of my pictures this summer; converging lines, old wood, and metal are all fun to play with.  This one I went for because of the lighting on the polished tops of the tracks and how mostly everything else was predominantly in shadow.

May 23, 2012

Stores

The effect of this picture probably would have been better with more than two and a half rows of glass jars, but I think I see a new theme emerging for pictures that I take at 11:00 pm: random stuff in the house (replacing the earlier genre of random stuff in the dorm room).

May 22, 2012

Perspective

It was certainly overexposed so a smaller aperture would have been nice, but I think this got what I was going for, which is big grass blades with trees in the background.

May 21, 2012

Cellular

This is what happens when I forget my memory card on a walk to the rim.  I get there late and I have to take pictures with my phone.  Oh well, I think the Canyon will still be around tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that, and the day after that...

May 20, 2012

Eclipse

Of course I had to take a picture of the eclipse, I hope that this one is a little unique, even though I found it overly difficult to protect the camera elements from the sun while also getting the Canyon exposed.  I figure most people saw the eclipse through glasses like these though, so I'm okay with how it turned out.

Transportation

So most people who know me have already seen this on Facebook, but in case you didn't, I'm using the same picture- I got's me a truck.  I'm open to suggestions on a name.

May 18, 2012

Technician

I was just lucky today, I would have completely forgotten to take a picture for the day.  Fortunately though, we have a new employee (though new probably isn't the right word since she's been here over a month) who didn't have a picture on our "Meet Your ITM Staff" web page, so I had taken this and was relieved to notice it after I had thought I had forgotten a picture for the day.  We had been trying to come up with a classic customer service picture (note the headset and computer setup) but I think the rest of the background kind of throws that off.

May 17, 2012

Workstation

I have to post pictures from my office occasionally it seems.  This is my workspace now that I am at Grand Canyon and I can't say I'm disappointed: I got to keep the standing desk setup and get an extra monitor (at least temporarily).

May 16, 2012

Arranged

These would be the flowers that my brother and I bought for our mom on Mother's Day (or at least some of them).  The lighting on them isn't great, but messing with the white balance helped get the colors more accurate.

May 15, 2012

Type

This is the big manual typewriter I have in my room.  The only practical use I have for it is addressing envelopes, but I keep it because I like the mechanics of it, and I find it somewhat amusing that I work with computers all day but I own this word processor of sorts that doesn't even require electricity.

May 14, 2012

Elk

I am just a little ashamed to have taken this given how much I complain about tourists being overly impressed by the elk, especially considering that this one is a cow and doesn't even have an impressive rack, but I haven't seen one of these for a few months, so I am a little more impressed.

May 13, 2012

Closet

Crawling around on my floor looking for something to take a picture of tonight, I liked the way that the sleeves on these shirts lined up as well as the different colors that you can see.

May 12, 2012

Crossword

Played a game of Bananagrams with my family tonight to celebrate being home (or almost home at least).  This is f/3.5 and I like the narrow depth of field it gave.

May 11, 2012

Hope

My dog, I think, is overly hopeful that he will get some food.  I think this is a good picture nonetheless, even though in this case making it black and white was kind of a cop out.

May 10, 2012

Espresso

I like the contrast on the foam (or crema if you're a snob) on top of my espresso.  With the rest of my dorm room packed up it was one of the only things left to take a picture of.

May 9, 2012

Gutter

The exposure compensation on this one is cranked all the way up (+4.00 is the highest my raw editor allows) because I took it at night, but I decided to leave it as is because the unrealistic colors were interesting.

May 8, 2012

Studiosity

What he's getting at is "Finals Suck."  I remember studying for calculus last semester though, so I don't blame this guy for his opinion.

May 7, 2012

Jackets

This picture would have been a lot more interesting if it included any of the rest of the room.  At this point both my roommate and I were packing up our belongings to move out for the summer, and I noticed that the door was the only thing in the room that looked completely normal.

May 6, 2012

Photographer

I think I've already posted a few like this, but this would be my roommate Sean who is also doing a 366 day project

May 5, 2012

Moon

I think there are only about three shades of color in this picture,  I had hoped that the moon would have a little more detail in it, but the sensor couldn't seem to pick up the details of the moon with the rest of the picture being so dark.  The reason for this though was that this is the largest moon of the year, but since I didn't manage to get any foreground exposed, you can't really tell.

May 4, 2012

Spinning

This was at the First Friday art walk downtown in Flagstaff.  One of the street performers had a bunch of hula hoops that he let these kids play with before his show.  It's a little blurry in some spots but for the most part I like the action you can see in the hula hoops here.

May 3, 2012

Pipes

This is, as far as I can tell, the building where all of the water and heating supply for the North Campus of NAU is determined and managed.  I just like the patterns.

May 2, 2012

Markup

This isn't the 14 page essay that made up half my grade in one of my classes that I was stressing out about tonight, but looking down at it I thought it was a pretty good image to illustrate the editing process.

May 1, 2012

Head

Lots of ISO noise to this one, but it was my only picture for the night, I didn't realize just how dark it was until post processing.
